Nothing Great can be achieved alone 'Bill Gates'
Why does lombok urgently need a humanitarian
In a modern country a humanitarian foundation like the 'Lombok Forgotten Children' does not exist, simply our systems, insurances, skills & government provide incredible medical help for sick & disabled children. These countries systems help in such a strong way that charities that want to contribute to their societies have little left to do and tend to do 'light punching' charity work like 'horse riding for disabled or meetings alcohol & drug addicts etc'
Amazingly even Bali is maturing, and the improvements to public health are significant compared to the less well run regions like Lombok - Sumbawa. Bali has a thousand plus western driven charities & if you study their social media sites & web pages you can see the regions success as these charities do mainly 'light punching' activities. eg taking clothes to poor villagers or orphanages or animal cruelty.
If they do have a 'Hard hitting' project like Pira who needs legs or snake bitten Arif they usually come in from Southern Indonesian regions. Most of the Bali charities help the odd child which become their organisations are 'poster projects' but due to the costs do very little compared to the hitting the big picture of Indonesian impoverish sick.
eg There is no where in Bali where you can go to in one area and pick up 22 disabled people who have never had help for a artificial leg.
WHY DO BALI CHARITIES NOT HELP LOMBOK - SUMBAWA SICK CHILDREN.
1. LEGALLY DANGEROUS: The 1st reason is the are not legally allowed to as very few are registered in Lombok. Ask any well established charity like John at JFF. They can tell you how regional governments services & hospitals created drama for them while working in outside regions and how authorities can feel threatened and fear being shamed for not doing their responsibilities. In Lombok the solution is out of sight out of mind which from family, village leader, religious leader, local politicians up follow. Building trusting relationships with these people with sensible, sensitive & calm solutions help get projects done in a huge manner. Another point is Village law is legal and when things go bad they can sue & demand compensation.
2. The second reason that I am finding why these Bali groups won't help Lombok - Sumbawa kids is that the HARD HITTING Projects cost MONEY. These western groups while very trustworthy are expensive operations, and for them to help the situation simply to overwhelming and costly.
3. Language, Culture, Corruption, Government, Village Law, Village Leader/Shaman/Inman & Religious Complexities, high divorce rates, no birth or marrage certification, corrupt hospitals: Lombok is not 20 years behind Bali with out reason, while Balinese are easy to work with Lombok is hugely complex but is quickly maturing. Lombok is no longer
The will to help is weak their fellow man is weak and the venerable are low on esteem and hope. They are also caught in financial slavery from people who see their urgent situations and pay them little.
Most of the sick children we work with have mothers who have been deserted by their husbands and left with nothing or grand parents have been dumped with the child.
The Bottom line is that the high priority 'HARD HITTING' Child projects are not getting done. Children are dying in pain with out pain medicine and hundreds of children like 'Sasha' have waited patiently with no help for 5 to 10 years. For Sasha a very operable ovarian cyst was left for 7 years and two days before her operation in Bali her heart was not strong enough and she died.

LFC FUNDAMENTAL STRUCTURE IS NOW SET UP:
Solemen - Lombok Forgotten Children:
Ha ha - Morning Ed Scheepmaker - and yes Go Fund Me , and getting good help. And you are right 'nothing great can be achieved alone - Bill Gates.'
Ed - I am glad you have brought this up and I am finally flying to Bali next week to address this and to get exciting new changes into place. (mums the word at the moment and we have some good options available)
A man's signature in life is his trustworthiness - I never really understood the saying of "trust is the currency of the world" until I spent the past 4 months in Indo trying to drive projects that had been planned for years. In business and as a captain of my own ship I have always had the best people around me, and trained and inspired them.
In the beginning of the LFC project I have opened doors for many people to help in a collaborative way and had people collecting money on behalf of LFC for projects. While most people were passionate it did not take very much time for things to get out of order, and messaging or phone is not the way to reason, or discus strategies especially with the many complexities with our different cases. I simply needed to live in Indonesia & build a team over there.
The above social 'media - experience was' I have never been so stressed from ridiculous situations with people keeping money that was promised to Endri Tanjung or for particular purposes that the collector thought they could change or dictate its use for something that was not a priority. However from this pain it was a good experience and the book I am writing on how to 'grow a non profit with no money' now has some great chapters.
Non of this would have been a problem or ever occurred if we were a real - physical group with proper meetings, a leader & a office etc. - Although face book significantly helps in huge & amazing new ways - 'Strong Effective Project Implementation' simply needs people to meet. eg This message is really important but it takes time to type this information and so much of my message will not come across as the way I mean -where by in person body language and communication speed is huge.
For me, my signature & word is most important and no longer will I place this important value of mine in a risk position with people who I have not personally met, who are collecting the money from friends & trusted associates of mine. It is too easy for social media to get out of step or even go wild, and in trying to do simple good deeds for people, who no one will help, can easily turn into accusations of stealing etc etc from people who have no idea of the complete situation. They do not realise how much damage they can do to significantly change the focus & energy of the people in the projects and how easily they can cause the project to fail. Indonesians also can be very sensitive & are not so 'leather backed' to criticism, and even Endri at one stage felt so pressured from 'whirl wind' supporters coming to the village front line with dominant ideas - that he wanted to give up. This is a fundamental reason for being careful when taking westerner supporters in the field.
WHATS THE SOLUTION?
Most of LFC's growth challenges exist because I live in New Zealand & not Indonesia & I have possibly done my job and have to sit back a notch. We seek & need an EXPERIENCED leader. eg I presently need a simple Internet Bank Password generator token. ANZ Bali will not send me one so I am now flying to get this 'tocken' so I can do internet banking & pay small money to different projects. What a ridiculous head ache that is holding so much up - this situation is not reliable or good enough and would be easily solved with a Indo leader.
THE GREAT NEWS IS: huge amounts of ground work is now in place for LFC to become a proper charity - or be part of a proven existing charity that wants to do some heavy hitting work in Lombok rather than the small stuff in Bali. (eg doing 22 Disabled person project to get arms & legs all at once.) Excitingly Endri is also now ready to be a charity, he has 2 free offices but needs organisation support. The answer is:
1. Western Charity: An experienced person/organisation to look after the banking, transparency, do social media reports, prioritise projects, raise money, meet donors, connect child A to doctor B in Bali etc & most importantly: to mentor - fund - help grow Endri and his charity. A experienced parent charity can train him to let Endri do what he does best & effectively grow a team of Lombok Social Workers getting kids to govt hospitals or what ever - this is very very effective and cost efficient.
(Yes two charities, a western specialist organisation and a Lombok Endri - local people village specialist)
I am flying to Bali next week with meetings to see if we can achieve the above - so hopefully all will go well.
After that we may have a brand new Indonesian bank account to put funds into with a trusted leader, security & hopefully even a tax deductible IRD numbers in other countries.
Wish me luck
